Mick Messbarger Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of this memorial is to provide a scholarship for an OPS graduating senior from Central High School who has participated in the Central Legion Baseball Program. This scholarship is in memory of Mick Messbarger who was a dedicated coach for the Memorial Park Baseball Little League and someone who loved baseball stats, trivia and most of all the game of baseball.  (Particularly the Texas Rangers!)

Amount: $750.00

Selection Criteria:

  1. Student must have participated a minimum of three years in the Central Baseball Program.
  2. Demonstrate Character/Citizenship
  3. Minimum GPA 3.0/Self-motivated
  4. Submit Financial Aid Form
  5. Submit student’s transcript
  6. Submit a short essay (500 words) “How I plan to use my education to benefit society.”
  7. Submit a letter of recommendation from the baseball coach, teacher and/or administrator.

Selection:

Process: Students will be nominated by the Central High Scholarship Committee.  Preference will be given to players who participated in the Memorial Park Little League Baseball Program. The recipient will be chosen by sponsors of the scholarship.  *Please note that the donors would like to see financial information as well as a letter of recommendation from the coach, counselor or a teacher.

Millie Lemon “Ms. Tucker” Scholarship

Purpose:  

To provide a scholarship for a deserving graduating Bryan High School senior in honor of Mrs. Lemon/Ms. Tucker.

Amount:

$500.00 payable to an accredited 2 or 4-year post-secondary institution.  

Recipients:

One graduating senior from Bryan High School.

Criteria:

  1. GPA between 2.5 and 3.5.
  2. Must have spent four years at Bryan High School.
  3. Must have taken Spanish for four years.
  4. Must have completed and earned passing grades in 7 semesters of Spanish classes.
  5. Must be enrolled in 2nd semester of senior year Spanish class.
  6. Student must submit a one-page essay addressing, “How will what you have learned taking four (4) years of high school Spanish help you in the future?” Please include your future plans in the essay.

Selection Procedure:

The Lemon Family will select recipient and present award letter on Honors Night.

The Milton “Milt” Lorenz Memorial Scholarship

Purpose:

To provide a scholarship for a graduating Benson High Magnet senior in memory of Milton Lorenz.  Mr. Lorenz was a teacher at Benson for 37 years and passed away on September 16, 2014.  He was a beloved math teacher for many years and at the point of his retirement was serving as the Director of Guidance for the School.  He loved being a teacher at Benson High and took great pride in his profession, the students and the school.

Amount:

$1000.00 payable to an accredited 4-year college or university.   Verification of enrollment should be sent to the Omaha Public Schools Foundation, 3861 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE  68131 for the check to be disbursed to the institution.

Eligible Recipients:

One graduating senior from Benson High School who is pursuing a degree in Math and/or Science

Selection Criteria:

  1. Academic achievement
  2. Citizenship/character
  3. Commitment to post-secondary education in the fields of Math and/or Science with the intention of becoming an educator.
  4. Financial need

Selection Procedure:

Benson High Magnet should send a letter of recommendation to the Omaha Public Schools Foundation.

Miracle Hills OPTIMIST / CHI Health Scholarship 4 Year Degree

Optimist International

Purpose:

Miracle Hills Optimist/CHI Health, Scholarship for a Four-Year Degree Program or Two Year Transfer Program.

Amount:

$1,000

Eligibility:

  1. Applicant must be planning on enrolling in the upcoming fall term as a full-time student in an institution of higher learning (college, university) with no fewer than 12 credit hours in a four-year program or two-year transfer program.
  2. Applicant must be a graduating senior during the present academic year of application at Burke High School
  3. Applicant must be performing satisfactorily in all subjects currently enrolled at Burke High School
  4. Applicant’s weighted GPA must be less than 3.7 on a 4.0 scale
  5. Applicant must submit a completed application by February 12, 2021
  6. Applicant must complete and attach a one-page written essay summarizing their short- and long-term goals and how they intend to achieve them.
  7. Applicant will be considered without regard to race, creed, religion, or sex

Deadline:

February 12, 2022.

Applications will be reviewed initially by the faculty scholarship committee with the final selection made by the Miracle Hills Optimist Club.

  1. Applicant must be planning on enrolling in the upcoming fall term as a full-time student in an institution of higher learning (junior college, technical college) with no fewer than 12 credit hours in a two-year trade school program.
  2. Applicant must be a graduating senior during the present academic year of application at Burke High School
  3. Applicant must be performing satisfactorily in all subjects currently enrolled at Burke High School
  4. Applicant’s weighted GPA must be less than 3.7 on a 4.0 scale
  5. Applicant must submit a completed application by February 12, 2022.
  6. Applicant must complete and attach a one-page written essay summarizing their short- and long-term goals and how they intend to achieve them.
  7. Applicant will be considered without regard to race, creed, religion, or sex

Mt. View Elementary School Scholarship

Purpose:

To assist students who wish to pursue post-secondary education.

Eligible Schools:

All OPS High Schools

Selection Criteria:

  1. Student must have completed two years at Mt. View.
  2. Recipient shall be academically able to succeed in college.
  3. Student must be pursuing further education at an accredited college or university.
  4. Student must submit a short essay (maximum 3 paragraphs) stating their future plans both professionally and personally. The title of the essay is: “How I plan to use my college education.”

Selection Process:

High school should send one eligible student application to the Omaha Public Schools Foundation. The final selection of the recipient will be made by the Principal of Mt. View Elementary School in consultation with school staff.

Amount:

$500.00 payable to the college or university upon the Foundation’s receipt of verification of enrollment from the institution chosen by the recipient.
