The Frances M. and Earl A. Hill Memorial Scholarship

Purpose:

To provide annual scholarships to classroom teachers in Omaha Public Schools who are currently enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and are working toward a School Library endorsement or toward a Masters degree that includes a School Library endorsement. The intention of all applicants should be to work in a public school library setting.

Amount:

$1500 payable to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The scholarships will be renewable for a second year if a 3.0 GPA has been maintained. Verification of enrollment and GPA for renewal must be sent to the Omaha Public Schools Foundation for payment directly to the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Eligible Recipients:

Teachers in Omaha Public Schools who are currently enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and are working toward a School Library endorsement or toward a Masters degree that includes a School Library endorsement with the intention of working in a public school library setting. Renewable for a second year if a 3.0 GPA is maintained with a continued focus on School Library education. Transcript must be sent to Omaha Public Schools Foundation if renewal for a second year is being requested.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Recipient must be a teacher in the Omaha Public School District.
  2. Recipient must already be enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and working toward a School Library endorsement or a Masters degree that includes a School Library endorsement.
  3. Recipient must have and maintain at 3.0 GPA.
  4. Recipient must submit a one-page essay on each of the following topics: “Why are you considering school librarianship as a profession?” and “How will your classroom experience be useful to you as a school librarian?”
  5. Please include your contact information in the essay.

Selection Process:

Dr. Nina Little will make the selection but upon her passing the Omaha Public Schools Foundation’s Executive Committee will make the selection.
